What an exciting day! A dear, dear friend of mine gave birth to her first child this morning...a beautiful little girl named Ella! Mind you, I use the term "little" loosely because she was over 9 pounds! So proud of my gorgeous friend and can't wait to meet the precious little angel that came into the world today. Hearing this news really takes me back to when I had my first child nearly five years ago...
Three days of labour and an emergency caesar made for a painfully exhausting transition into the world of motherhood, but that couldn't wipe the smile off my face when I held little Sophie for the first time. I was in a euphoric state of bliss for the entire hospital stay but upon reflection, perhaps that was due to the morphine and the post op pain relievers they were giving me...hmmm? It is funny though, when you are in hospital with your bub (first, second or otherwise), it is like the whole world stops. You don't care much about anything going on outside the walls of your room and your sole focus is on the precious new baby you have in your arms (or chewing on your nipples struggling to attach and sending you through the roof in pain...but let's focus on the glossy side of things today). All the exhaustion, and hard work of motherhood don't really seem to matter much in the first few days because you are just feeling so chuffed with the little human you have created and you just want to show them off to the world! Justifiably so I believe!
So with this new little angel in the world I went off to the shops this morning to buy her a gift. I thought a cardigan might be nice but for $23 at Target, they can stick that up their jumpers! I can't believe they can charge that much for a newborn jumper that bub will grow out of in a matter of weeks! Unfathomable, especially when I would be hard pressed to spend that much on a jumper for myself! So I gave up on the cardigan idea and instead bought Ella a gorgeous little outfit and a few bits and bobs for the new mother. While I was shopping, young Elliott decided to rip off his shoes and socks (as always) and reveal his beautifully painted pink toenails! I completely forgot that Sophie and I had done that to him (willingly, he loved it) so there they were on display for the world to see. I don't particularly care though, it's just par for the course when an older sister is involved, although I don't think Mat would be too impressed to see him right now with his nail polish on, trotting around in one high heel and donning a pretty pink bag on his arm as he waves goodbye to me. So cute! He is beckoning me to come and play with him so I am off to spend some quality time with my gorgeous son. I might get the blocks out and tempt him away from the handbags though :)
